Article 1: Name
The organization shall be known as DKMC – an acronym for Draco Knights Motorcycle Club.
Article 2 : Purpose
The primary purpose of this organization is to bring together individuals interested in promoting enjoyment and fellowship through riding their motorcycles. The organization shall be a family-oriented club that welcomes owners of all makes and models of motorcycles, although one does not need to be a motorcycle rider to join. The organization shall not be so strictly regimented as to detract from the primary intent of promoting enjoyment and fellowship, and therefore, the business of the organization shall be conducted in as informal a manner as is possible to fulfil its purpose.
Article 3 : Organization
3. A. Officers
Names and contact information of officers of the club are available from the President , Officers shall hold office for a period of two years or until a new officer is elected by the Club membership. The Club Officers as a group will be known as the Board of Directors. These Officers will preside over scheduled Club meetings and events, and may hold other positions of responsibility during Club events. Only Core members may hold office, although all members have the right to vote. If a Core member steps down from office and no other Core member is available to fill the office, then the President will appoint a member from the general membership for the vacant position based on a list suggested by the Core members.
Committees appointed by the Board are open to all members.
3. B. Duties of the President
i. Preside over Club meetings.
ii. General supervision of the affairs of the organization
iii. Personally represent the Club at formal occasions and with business contacts.
iv. Act as ex-officio member of every committee.
v. Prepare an agenda for each meeting
vi. Vote in the best interests of the Club in all matters requiring a vote by Club members. The President shall have the tie-breaking vote in all club matters.
3. C. Duties of the Vice- President
i. Assist the President and perform the duties of the President should the President be unable or unavailable to fulfil the duties of the Office.
ii. Oversee management of all Committees.
3. D. Duties of the Treasurer
i. Receive, record, and account for all club funds. Carry out the financial responsibilities of the Club, including the preparation of a monthly financial statement for the membership.
ii. Disburse Club funds in accordance with directions set out by the Board.
iii. Be responsible for withdrawals from the Club account. The Treasurer, President, and Vice-President shall be authorized to sign cheques.
v. The Treasurer shall ensure that no two person from the same household shall sign cheques, and that no recipient of a cheque shall be a co-signer on that cheque..
3. E. Duties of the Secretary
i. Record (or arrange to be recorded) and maintain records of all Club meetings in a book or books kept for that purpose. Such a book or books shall also contain a record of meetings of the organization, the original or an attested copy of the articles of the organization and bylaws of the DKMC, and the names and addresses of all Officers and Board members of the club.
ii. Handle all official Club correspondence.
iii. Keep records of contact in formation for all members.
1v. Perform other such duties that generally fall to the Office.
3. F. Duties of the Sergeant-At-Arms
i. Preserve order during meetings as the Chair directs.
ii. Enforce all club rules and bylaws.
iii. Collect and count all voting ballots.
iv. Collect unpaid dues; collect the crest and rocker of any member who has left the club, or as directed by the Board.
v. Take 'last rider' position to ensure that no rider is left behind.
vi. Perform other duties related to this position as directed by the President/Vice –President.
3. G. Duties of the Road Captain
i. Hold final authority over road activities and protocol.
ii. Assure the safety of all riders during any Club-sponsored ride.
iii. Assist with all tours, runs, and related activities sponsored by the Club.
iv. Abide by all provincial/municipal laws that pertain to the operation of a motorcycle.
v. Conduct himself/herself in such a manner as not to diminish the image of the Club.
vi. Enforce group riding rules for all rides.
vii. When group numbers warrant, the Road Captain in conjunction with the President/Vice-President will appoint one or more Assistant Road Captains.
viii. If a ride is cancelled 12 hours prior to scheduled ride time, the Road Captain shall inform the WebMaster so that he or she can post the change on the website. If a ride is cancelled less than 12 hours before the schedules time, the Road Captain must ensure that all members are contacted and informed.
3. H. Duties of the Event Organizer
i. Be responsible for and in charge of all events attended by the organization.
ii. Co-ordinate between the Club and others during events, and act as official spokesperson for the organization at these events.
iii. Organize events for the Club.
iv. Organize rides for the club in conjunction with the Road Captain.
v. Be responsible for Club promotional events/materials in conjunction with the President and Vice-President.
vi. Act as official Photographer for the Club.
3. I. Duties of the WebMaster
i. Design and maintain the Club's Internet website to provide information about the Club's activities for members and potential members.
ii. Keep and hold all personal information received from the website in trust. Post this information only when given direct permission from members to do so.
iii. Maintain the website for the Club as set out by the Board of Directors. Any changes to or postings on the website must be made in conjunction with the President/ Vice-President.
iv. Since pictures posted to the website are property of DKMC and are therefore copyrighted , the WebMaster ensures that they are not used without consent of the Board.
Article 4 : Membership
A. Membership is open to all those with an interest in motorcycles.
B. Membership is open to all those who agree with the Club's purpose.
C. Members must be in good standing in terms of conduct.
D. Members must abide by the Club bylaws.
E. Members must purchase and wear a Club crest.
F. Drinking alcohol will not be permitted on a ride.
G. No riding while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
H. Reckless driving will not be tolerated.
I. Members must have a valid motorcycle license, registration, and insurance.
J. Members must be safety conscious.
K. Members must ride safely and defensively.
L. Members are held to their own individual accountability.
M. Members are encouraged to attend as many Club meetings, functions, and charitable events as possible.
N. Members must obey all local motorcycle laws, both municipal and provincial.
O. Members must wear the DKMC crest at all functions.
P. Any member may be expelled for conduct unbecoming a member of DKMC.
Article 5 : Meetings
A. Registration
Regular meetings shall be held once a month. The date, time, and location shall be agreed upon beforehand and the information published on the website.
B. Elections
Meetings for election of Officers shall be held every two years.
Article 6 : Bylaw Amendments
Bylaws can be amended every two years at the meeting for election of Officers. Suggested amendments to the bylaws will be submitted to the Board and voted on by the Core members. If there is a 75% agreement to the amendment among the Core members, the proposed amendment will be voted on by the general membership. At least 75% of the general membership must also agree to the amendment before a change to a bylaw will be enacted.
Article 7 : Liability
DKMC will not be held responsible for any unlawful conduct of its members.
DKMC is not responsible or liable for bikes that do not meet provincial standards as set out in the legislation since this is the responsibility of each individual member.
Members agree that they are responsible for their conduct, actions and cannot hold DKMC responsible for any mishap or accident.
Article 8 : Club Crest
Club Crests are to be worn at all official Club meetings and events. Club crests are the property of DKMC and expelled members must return club crests and rockers to the Sergeant-At-Arms.
Club crests shall be worn on all Club rides and in such a fashion that they are always visible.
Club crests cannot be changed or defaced. Such an act will constitute grounds for immediate expulsion from DKMC.
Article 9 : Non-member Guests
Non-member motorcycle owners/guests are welcome at all rides and social gatherings of the Club so long as they are invited by a regular Club member. Each Club member may invite one (1) non-member guest to a Club event.
Guests must agree to abide by Club rules, bylaws, and codes of conduct when they participate in an event.
